Waipapa Marae Waitotara
In 2008, having been flooded by the Waitōtara River twice in three years, the Waipapa Marae was moved to a hilltop above the river, overlooking 142ha of Maōri land, Mt Taranaki, and the Tasman Sea.
In 2009 we designed and supplied a wastewater treatment system with capacity to treat up to 15,000 L/day, ample to cater to a tangi with 300 people for up to three days.
The South Taranaki Council was concerned that a septic tank installation would cause erosion on the hillside. Our solution was a buffered AdvanTex system with a buffered volume of 10,000 L/day.
The effluent is treated to a clear liquid and drip-irrigated at 3mm/m2 a day over 1000m2 on the marae.
